haha I guess he's not 100% of the player he used to be, that's for darn sure. What I'm saying is that since he hasn't been the same since his injury- there are no guarantees he will ever return to that form.

I don't see how Chara was such an overpayment, not that I care. To get an established star you're going to have to pay. Apart from being a beast, Chara is one of the best dmen in the league. He's right up there with Lidstrom, Pronger, and now Keith and Doughty. Chara can man the point on the powerplay and punish guys on the PK. Having him on my team instantly put me in contention for the playoffs. Depending on how the ice time works out, he might be on my first and third pairing.
To all those saying it was an insane overpayment, where would you suggest I get a better or equal dman for the same value? I had draft picks to spare (look at my roster/prospects and say I didn't) so I used those assets to get what I wanted.

You are aware that he's 19 not 39?
And if he's lookin good in prospects camp that's all that matters.

I never questioned how great Chara is but he's already having issues of slowing down in the 2nd round of the playoffs. He plays hard and with his body/back he's not going to make it to 40 and I just have a feeling his play will start to noticebly drop off as the next few years go by. It's not an 'insane overpayment' like you've suggested me or anybody else said it's just an overpayment. When a 3rd overall and another 1st/2nd are involved for a 33+ year old it just seems a bit much. However sometimes you have to overpay to get a player of his caliber. It's not being a bad GM I mean you could've traded Simon Gagne for Matt Walker and a 4th rounder. Then you'd be an awful GM.

meh. Lets say Kovalchuk was a rfa and some team signed him to an offer sheet. (of the same contract) If the team didn't match they would get (i'm not 100% sure) 5 1st rounders for him. It's 4 first rounders and theres a slight difference between 4 immediate first rounders and 4 stretched over 4 years. Not to mention Kovy's a few years past RFA age meaning his values not really compairable though still young he's already hit his prime not just entering it. I'm not saying it's a horrible deal but it seems alittle much for Kovy expecially at the expected value of his contract (and now the possibility of him going to KHL again.) Edit: actually at the average salary of the contract at the time it would have only been 2 firsts a 2nd and a 3rd.

Complete rape job by mtl.
Probably one of the most lopsided trades in the leagues history.

hmm..i think its pretty fair. Horton is by far the best player in this deal..and lets not forget what montreal paid to get him

I'm liking the deal for Montreal as well. Don't think it's completely lopsided, but he's the clear winner.

i think brendan morrow really tips this in montreal's favor. o'sullivan is more or less garbage and a late 2nd isnt that valuable. horton is good, but not a star. i have to agree with chicago.

I would be shocked if O'Sullivan played in the NHL this year. He needs to play on the top 6. He's not a checker. He's also small and doesn't score so why is he on the top 6 again? He's had his chance and i think he's toast.
So
n. horton FLA 2nd in 2010
for
r.j. umberger b. morrow b. coburn STL 1st in 2010 STL 34d in 2011
