Montreal- As the playoff's are about the begin a real sense of excitement is building in the city. "It's great to have high expectation and win the number one seed in the east, but we need to stay focused," said Captain and leading GMHL goal scorer Daniel Alfredsson. "Last year we snuck up on some teams and made it to the finals to only lose. We're not going to sneak up on anyone this year, you know they're gunning for us." The Habs have been a team steeped in tradition and winning. The city expects the same results every year; to win the cup! "The team that comes out of the east is going to have to go on a great run and click like we did last year," said goalie Robert Esche, "I came hear to help the team last year and now Olie's here this year to help us achieve the same." Goalie Olaf Kolzig was named the started by Coach Paul Maurice the last game of the season. "He's played really well since we acquired him near the deadline. He's been really focused, and patient when not playing. Olie was use to caring the load in L.A., but now he's happy to be a part of a team in net." Kolzig was brought to Montreal for one reason, and that's to get over the hump of last year's heart breaking OT loss in game seven of the GMHL Finals. "The scares never going to go away, it's just going to motivate and make us work that much harder" stated Maxim Afinogenov. Maxim had a break out season this year playing along side veteran's Bobby Holik and Sami Kapanen. "It's great to play with these guys, they have the vision and Sami and I skate well together."
This team has been rezillant this season, "Many team's after getting punched in the gut like that last year fold. They don't work as hard during the off-season, but we used it as our motivation all season long," stand out defenseman Kimmo Timonen said. "We kept the box score up in the locker room to remind us that we don't EVER want to feel that way again. Don't get me wrong, we're not assuming we're going to win anything here, however our focus and drive is as strong as ever!" The additions in the off-season of youth in Kyle Calder and Brian Campbell helped the team tremendously this season. "Both guys have been great sparks all year long. Look at Kyle's number's this season, he helped make Alfie better. Sundie's number's were off, but Kyle just stepped it up when needed. Camp on the other hand has been solid, he and Timo have clicked since day one together. Brian's the real deal" said Coach Maurice.
The reality of the GMHL post-season is here. The team appears focused and ready for any challege ahead of them. The concern now is squarely on how to stop the top line's on Tampa, with Fedorov-Rolston-Elkman, and Weight-Tkachuk-Walker. You can't forget that Gerber's in net and the soild play they've gotten out of their defense all year. "When you've got guys like Gelinas and Lehtinen playing on your 3rd line it poses huge match-up problems." We're historically have not played Tampa well so it's hard to see such a talented team at the eighth seed and in the first round. I'm glad we have home ice, and this is going to be a great series." Coach Maurice stated before he left to work on some film. "Let the REAL SEASON begin!"
As everyone in Montreal know's and wants to believe, this is the the team they've built to win now. Next season will come but will it be as Cup Champs, Eastern Confernce Champs only again, or will next season be the year where we say, "Well it's a re-building year...." Only the games will tell.
GO HABS GO!

Since this board is so dead, I thought we should re-open this thread and see what each team has to say after a game or just in general. I think it'll add some fun or maybe a new rivalry or two we forgot about...........
I'll be posting after the next sim.

MONTREAL FIRES COACH PAUL MAURICE
Montreal-The Montreal Canadiens announced the firing of Coach Paul Maurice today with no real comments. GM Scotty Bowman will take over the helm temporarily until a replacement can be found. "We have an extremely talented team that went to the Stanley Cup two seasons ago, and have since tanked" said GM & interim coach Bowman. "After that first round lost last year we have been pathetic, and there has to be blaim somewhere! We are not giving up yet, we've made some significant changes this season to work on chemistry. We are a very talented team that needs to find a way to relax and play our style of hockey, not our opponents."
After several moves to start the season the Habs have continued to mythologically play a low scoring bore you to death hockey. This hasn't been without the teams attempt to bring back some fire. After the trade of team captain, Daniel Alfredsson, there has been no line chemistry and even less scoring. "I didn't realize how much Alfy was really this team." said Kimmo Timonen, "I mean we all know he's the best playa in this league, but we added some muched need depth at center with Arnott and a great young winger in Horcoff." Montreal has since made several more moves. The latest was a league rumbling move to add J. Jagr and M. Handzus. The team also added one of the leagues oldest goalies in E. Belfour. "We added Jagr for obvious reasons, scoring! We added 'Zus for his size and character, and we added Belfour for his experience and confidence. Don't forget he won the GMHL Cup for the Blackhawks the inaugural season." Bowman stated. We will win again and it will be soon. We can not continue on this slide so the appropriate actions were taken, Coach Mo is gone and a new style of hockey is coming, it's going to be wide open and hopefully higher scoring team with Jagr being added. The best quote out of the Habs locker room was from D. Kalinin, "Real simple, I came from a terrible organization and saw how quickly things can fall apart, and I came here and started to see the same writing on the wall it said; WE SUCK AND IT'S TIME TO LOSE THE DEAD WEIGHT! I'm glad Coach Mo is gone, to hell with him, I didn't like him anyways. Oh, and the guys on my former team that we just lost to, we'll be back and we will make the playoffs while you're at home playin' golf!"
Montreal looks to right the ship and will need to do so quickly. There are several underachieving teams in the East this season and something has to give. Hopefully it's not in Montreal.

January 19, 2008 Montreal- The Canadiens again have proven that pulling the trigger to get talent is not a concern. "We acquired a very talented leader in Demitra today." He's one of those guys that when you get an opportunity to acquire him you go after him. We made several attempts when he was with the 'Leafs but were unsuccessful in getting him. We were actually surprised to see him available after being acquired by the Caps" stated GM & interim Coach Bowman in a short press conference. "I feel very fortunate to now have the strenght and experience on all lines. We have an opportunity to run 2 lines that can really rival any 1st line in the league. We're going to pose some match-up problems for allot of teams. Anytime when you have guys line Sundin, Jagr & Whtney come out play you are a threat to score, now we have a 2nd line with Arnott, Horcoff and Demitra that will pose the same threat. Our 3rd line is fast with Sandersson and Calder on the wing and our 4th can grind you with brown and fedoruk. We just need to start meshing together and play like the talented team we are. We have to stop playing to the level of our opponents like we did in that loss to Ottawa. I hope that was a wake up call for everyone involved. Our goaltending is talented with Toskala and Belfour and our defense is young fast and experienced with Timo and Campbell anchoring it. It's going to take a few games to learn each other, but I think that if all these moves don't pan out then we are going to have to see wholesale changes next season. This is the best team, talent wise, that we've ever put on the ice, no doubt. Now it's time to see the results. I have the fortunate pleasure of coaching these guys each night. Now we just have to find that leadership and drive in the lockerroom to win. The will be no excuses from here on out. The talent is there, let's now get this ship back on course."
The Habs have no choice but to win now due to trading away there future. With no real picks in any upcoming drafts and the loss of Ryno and Schremp in this past deal, Montreal needs to find a way to get rid of the selfish play and win as a team. The product is on the ice, the tickets will sell with all the stars, but the biggest question is will they win? Only games will tell and it's an uphill fight with teams like New Jersey also fighting to get back in the hunt. Montreal will be an interesting team to observe coming down the stretch and if the ship starts to falter will they start to become sellers? Will the Preds finally see the day that we rebuild, all if have to say I HOPE NOT!
