matt cooke wasn't charged either for what seems to be ruining savard's career. i don't think chara did anything wrong here. in any other arena, that check would have just put patches in the wall. chara can't be held accountable for a dangerous design flaw of the arena, nor can he be expected to always know exactly where he is on the ice when he checks someone at full speed. no one thinks he's a dirty a player, so why all of a sudden everyone wants him to go to prison for a clean hockey check is beyond me.

Chara's hit was a clean hit with a bad outcome. Unfortunately Pacioretty got injured and that is not good. But how is that a dirty hit. Every NHL player would have done the same thing in Chara's situation. Rub the player out no matter who it is. And yes every NHL player gives the player an extra shot at the end of a check along the boards. What I find so funny is how Montreal fans want Chara's head on a platter, but yet when Hal Gill did the same thing against Jon Sim, they all cheered and said it was a great hit.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHHMZkpvw6c

they probably cheered when cooke knocked out savard too. it's not unusual for habs fans to act ridiculous and hypocritical. and this air canada threat is ridiculous. i really like bettman's response about how air canada has a right to pull out their sponsorship but nhl teams have a right to find it more economical to take another airline for all their chartered flights.
regardless, it would be pretty funny if toronto lost their arena's sponsorship over a clean hit carried out in a game between two of its rivals.

I'll just say damnit I don't believe that Chara is a dirty player. Just a brutal hit that the on-ice officials called correctly.

Don Cherry said that air canada's home base is in montreal........
Clean hit with a terrible result.
lol at the habs fan callin for Chara's head. This is the same people that boo'd the star spangled banner multiple times. I have no respect for them.
Also on coaches corner they showed about 15 hits along the turn buckle that happened in the last few years. None had suspensions.

if so many hits have occurred on the buckle, then the arena is more at fault than chara. if montreal wants to protect their players who spend half the season in the arena, then they should take precautionary actions to ensure a check on the buckle won't leave a player incapacitated. add extra padding or even re-design the walls. it's not chara's fault their arena has a dangerous flaw.
