Ryan agrees to deal with Ducks
TSN.ca Staff
The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim have agreed to a three-year entry level contract with right wing Bobby Ryan. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deals were disclosed.
"Bobby Ryan is an exciting player that we are happy to officially add to our young group of skilled forwards," said Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Burke. "He has a rare combination of size and skill and we look forward to his continued development."
Ryan was Anaheim's consolation prize after they just missed landing the top pick in the 2005 NHL Draft Lottery. Pittsburgh won the draw and took Sidney Crosby. Anaheim followed by making Ryan the number two pick overall. Ryan leads Owen Sound of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with 30 goals, 62 assists and 92 points in 55 games. The 18-year-old forward is tied for eighth in assists and ninth in points in the OHL, and was selected to represent the Western Conference in the 2006 OHL All-Star Game.
Ryan also appeared in seven games for Team USA at the 2006 IIHF World Junior Tournament, earning three goals and four assists in seven games. Ryan spent the previous two seasons with Owen Sound of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In 2004-2005, the 6-2, 213-pounder finished second on Owen Sound with 37 goals and 89 points, a plus-minus rating of +30 and 51 penalty minutes in 62 games.
