Freddy Meyer > Randy Jones Alexandre Picard > Randy Jones Your point??? Just because I picked him up off waivers does not mean I think he is better than either of them. I was just looking to add some more depth to my defense next year and Jones is getting some good playing time and playing fairly well.

I needed an excuse to brag about how well Freddy Meyer has been playing. Picard's first game he had 6 shots in 7 minutes of icetime (he's got a great shot). Then the next game he had a pretty big hit on a Hab (forget who).

Not that Picard can't, he's just not NHL ready this year.

I was looking at Meyer first but obviously STL already had him, but I was watching some of the Flyer game I think on Wed. night and saw some of Jones and he had 2 assists I think and played pretty well, so I did a bit of research on him and he impressed me. So to take a chance on a waiver guy isn't a big deal. Plus he's playing well. I know he won't be a top pairing guy, but if he could be a 4 or 5, I'd be happy. My D is pretty set as it is with Kubina, Morris, Johnsson, Spacek, White, and Gleason as my top 6 next year, so I won't need Jones other than depth.

They are both playing so well, they both got re-assigned to the minors and Randy Jones stays up with the Flyers.

In fact, Randy Jones looks better than both of them to me. But, I actually like guys who can play D. Not that Picard can't, he's just not NHL ready this year. I thought Meyer has been better than Jones offensively and defensively but Meyer makes more mistakes. Meyer is the kind of player that will put up points, make great passes, make great defensive plays and make some glaring mistakes until he gains more experience. Jones is a very unspectacular defensemen. I noticed that with the Phantoms last year. He can make a good breakout pass and every once in a while he can get his legs moving to bring the puck up the floor. He has a good 3-4" on Meyers and maybe 20 pounds or so. Even though Meyer has 5 points in his last 5 games he gets sent down because of the cap. Same thing happened with Eager. 2-way players can only stay up a certain amount of time and then they have to be sent down a certain amount of time or something happens with the cap. Picard should have never seen the NHL this year. He should've seen a handful of games next year and then come up full-time in 07-08. With that said he impressed and exhibited some great potential. Eager is back up ;D I loved him for the Phantoms and I have really loved him in the NHL. He is a better NHLer than he is an AHLer if that makes any sense. I thought he was a grinder last year in the AHL and now in the NHL he's showing 2nd line PF potential.

Turns out it was just for a day anyway. "The Flyers surprised everyone yesterday when they sent Freddy Meyer back to the Phantoms and kept Randy Jones. Turns out it was a salary-cap-related move, having to do with the money piling up against the total cap number with every game that AHL call-ups practice and play with the Flyers. Expect to see Meyer on the ice this afternoon when the Tampa Bay Lightning skates into the Wachovia Center. Chris Therien is expected to be the odd defenseman out as Joni Pitkanen makes another attempt at coming back from abdominal surgery." www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/13733997.htm

I traded away a first rounder to get Kolanos way back when. Only fitting that he came back to my team.....after trading a 1st to get him, he should still be my headcase Not only a first rounder... To CMB: Krys Kolanos, Darcy Hordichuk To ATL: Ivan Novoseltsev, Jussi Jokinen, 2004 1st round pick
