Hey guys. I'd really hate to see the league disappear but the reality of the situation is I really am not nor will I be for some time capable of being very active in the league. Im very happy to stick around as long as the league is active though. My schedule for the summers involves being out of range of the internet for extended periods of time which will keep me from really participating in the draft process very closely and in the winters I'm working towards running my first Iditarod which has kept me from even really being able to follow hockey much at all. I think I've seen a total or 5 games in the last two seasons and to be honest Id have to even look up who won any of the cups this year. If you guys are happy with that level of involvement then I can stay on for what ever direction the league decides to go.

And you're level of involvement is more than we get from some other GMs, so feel free to stick around. As for the future of the league, there is still no consensus since we have not gotten any new GM's and contraction is getting mixed reviews.

I just don't see any option but to contract. Over the years we've always struggled to find enough GM's and I don't think we'll ever have close to 30, let alone even 24, active GM's. We should just build the league and the rules around the amount of reliable GM's that we have and could even try to add a couple of new guys. I'm sure if we stick our heads together we can find rules that make sense for a smaller league.
I'm willing to redraft if that means we can contract, although I'd rather not since I've been retooling my team to this point for awhile. The first GM drafted Sean Burke in the first round. Brian Leetch in the second, etc.

Another idea is that each active GM gets to control 2 teams - one team in each conference? No trading between own teams
The reservation I have with league contraction is the teams are going to be loaded, no longer making the rosters realistic..no room for the grinders and plugs like Tuomo Ruutu

I think this league requires much less time than some of the people who've left have claimed. I don't think managing another team will affect active GMs so much who clearly enjoying managing in the first place. Anyways, once I get a final decision about what the league wants to do, I can start organizing the draft if it ends up being necessary.

The concern I have is that only 8 people voted in the poll so that means we'd have 16 "active" teams. Of course that would allow for more trades and make waivers more important. I think contraction and redraft coudl allow for stacked teams, so this idea seems like a good one, just wish we had more than 8 active GM's participating.

Just thinking out loud and throwing ideas out there.
what if the league transformed to a non-sim league (ie yahoo) with existing rosters, where points are obtained for goals, assists, hits, etc.... ?? just wondered if there is an interest to that. you could still have 2 teams per GM (?) in this case the online website would be doing a lot of the work

I think we should keep simming, and the idea of having one team in each conference works for me as well.
An extension of BJ's idea is something I thought of awhile ago. I think it would work better if money was involved, even $20. We could run a sim and a hockey pool with the same teams, a portion of the money goes to the cup winner and a portion would go to the pool winner.

I've sometimes wondered if the fact we have message boards drags the league down a bit? Its clear we are no longer interested in chatting about hockey and life, so is there something out there that would streamline how the league does its reporting so GM's dont have to mine through data to get to what needs to be done? Something like twitter or whatever?
Im just thinkin' aloud on other ways the league can get a second wind.

i think we would all love for the league to be what it was 5 yrs ago when the boards were always full of trade opinions, nhl thoughts, waiver claims, etc.
if GMs want that again, then the solution is pretty easy: be more active. pay attention to the draft, make waiver claims, put players on the trading block, share your opinions about trades and nhl news, etc.
if you want the league to work, don't log in once a quarter and then bemoan how inactive the league is.
this isn't geared to you in particular CBJ, but i don't think changing the site format is going to have any impact on involvement.

As a GM that has been here since league opening, 5th all-time for total posts and probably one of the most active traders/waiver queens, I think many of the long-time GM's wouldnt disagree that it will be tough to bring the volume of discussion back no matter what the circumstances.
Many of us are now 10 years older which much different responsibilities. time to face the facts
Just wondering if there would be other ideas out there to better incorporate the league into our daily routines. If not, then we just carry on.

yes, just like most of the GMs on here, you USED to be very active. I understand people's priorities change over the years, but the reality of this league is that it takes very little time to be "active."
how may times do you guys check fb, yahoo, twitter etc during the day? how difficult would it be to add GMH to that list? you really don't have a couple of minutes a day to spare?
I think where the league nosedived is when PHX left and the file site changed its format. Nothing happened in the league for months while Minny and TOR tried to pick up the pieces. GMs got used to not checking the boards because there was no reason to. Nothing was happening anyways. During that time I was finding it ridiculous that it was taking 3 months to start the draft, so I just jumped in and started doing it.
If it wasn't for Minny, this league would have folded several years ago.
There's no reason that with good waiver, draft, and sim management and some fresh blood that this league can't thrive again. We've already seen a small bump in activity with the extra team format and NYI's efforts recruiting. Let's keep it going.
