Hey thanks Pitts. I agree, the IIHF agreement is going to make it really hard to draft a euro. The NHL shot themselves in the foot though by locking out and dropping sales, they now dont really have alot of money to pay players big dollars to play in the NHL. Players are going to want to play in russia etc.

I thought the IIHF didnt approve that? Doesnt the IIHF want the NHL have to pay money to ship guys like ovechkin over and what not? Or is that only when they have a contract with a club in russia for example and they are wanting that certain player to forego his last year or so of his contract in russia?

Or is that only when they have a contract with a club in russia for example and they are wanting that certain player to forego his last year or so of his contract in russia? IIHF basically states the criteria for having a player break his current contract to play in the NHL (ie Washington pays x amount of money to have Ovechkin come last year if we had a season). With no IIHL, players cannot break their contract to come to North America, but instead can come over at the expiration of their contract as they wish. This will probably lead to the good players only signing in Russia through the age of 18 so they can come ASAP, instead of the norm now which is to sign a multi-year deal and break it through the IIHL (in which the teams losing the player are compensated).

Czech rejected it also apparently, this may hurt those leagues in the long run. As Paul said, if they come over at the age of 18, then they could be screwing themselves big time...I'll guess we'll see...

the new and improved Florida Panthers top 10 prospects
1. Bobby Ryan - Potential franchise winger. Players with this mix of skill and size dont come around too often. Should absolutely dominate the OHL this year, easily leading the league in scoring and is an early candidate for OHL player of the year. Skating concerns hadsome people shying away, but some said the same things about Rick Nash.
2. Zach Parise - Will center the Devils 2nd line, I can see him putting up 60 points as a rookie. Has captain written all over him. May be a surprise addition to the US Olympic squad.
3. Milan Michalek - Should start out on either the 2nd line or checking line for the Sharks. Some have concerns about recovering fully from his knee surgeries...I dont
4. Braydon Coburn - The Thrashers big blue liner is the first representative of my future defense on my top 10. This kid is an absolute stud who will most likely start out on the 3rd pairing, but will end the year eating up alot of minutes for the young Thrashers team.
5. Al Montoya - Once again, most people have written him off after an average statistical season with the Wolverines. After signing a contract this year, its up to Hartford for the young netminder. With a Wolfpack team that thrives on defense in front of him, he should have an amazing year.
6. Mikko Koivu - the young Finn will begin his NHL career this year, and hes gonna be a good one. Had an amzing first year in North America with the Houston Aeros.
7. Corey Perry - A wizard with the puck, dominated the OHL this year, made team Canada for the WJCs, and led his team to the Memorial Cup. The sky in truly the limit for young Perry, who while some speculate hell begin the year in Portland, he should finish in Anaheim.
8. Mark Stuart - a true leader on and off the ice. Is a smart smart player who will get rough if he has to. Will begin the year in Boston and should be in the top four by years end. Won the WCHA Defensmen of the year
9. Robert Nilsson - had an up and down year in Sweden, but didnt let it bother him too much. Milbury is attempting to get him over and in an Isles jersey this year.
10. Chris Higgins - An exceptionally smart two way player, should make the Habs top 6 out of training camp. An invitee for the Team USA olympic team

So by your count florida your prospect pool should see 8 guys making the NHL this year and 2 of them making it as 2nd line guys with 2 others potentially also maknig it as 2nd line guys not to mention a couple defenceman you expect to crack the NHL. All I have to say is good luck. But a nice crop.
