Nitty better get that spot. It's absolutely ridiculous Lehtonen is on that team.

Nitty better get that spot. It's absolutely ridiculous Lehtonen is on that team. Why? He was on their last team. Lehtonen is still goin get in a lot of games before the Olympics start.

Sweep? AHL Playoff MVP? Proven winner? More international experience? Older and more mature? Underrated?

How many do you think he'll get in, 5? The Olympics are 6 weeks away. Lehtonen could start on the 26th. The Thrashers have 22 games after Christmas to the Olympics. I'm sure he'll get in more than 5. Lehtonen is the better of the two.

He's pretty injury prone so I wouldn't count on him staying healthy for the 22 game stretch especially if he has to play 15 games or so. Serious groin injuries is like the achillies heal to all goaltenders. Lehtonen hasn't proven anything in the AHL or NHL to be better than Niittymaki right now. You guys are just feeding the hype machine. Niittymaki outperformed Toivonen and Lehtonen last year and has outperformed Esche this year and he still gets no credit. This isn't a knock on Lehtonen at all since he is 3 years or so younger but I'm just sick of all this Lehtonen hype when he hasn't done anything over here yet to deserve it.

When Lehtonen has played though, he's been very impressive. I know it's only five games, but anytime a goalie can come in and play for the Thrashers and post a 1.15 GAA with a .955 save %, it's worth noting.

Nitty and him had real similar starts in the NHL. Nitty went 3-0 let up 1 goal a game and has a save percentage in the .960's against the Caps, Thrashers and Devils.

Mike Modano, Tony Amonte for the States.
Lydman, Toskala (maybe) for Finland
Filip Kuba for the Czechs

Not to mention his numbers last year in the A: 2.27 and 0.929. Take a look at his stats wherever he's played. Always high 1/low 2 GAA and 930 save pct. True, he hasn't established himself like Nitty yet in the NHL, but he will. Also, Hartley said he'll be playing 95% of their games when he comes back, so he'll have plenty of games in before the Olympics barring injury.

Lehtonen will be in Luongo's class in a few seasons. Nitty although good will never be tagged a franchise goalie. But there's nothin wrong with that. I'd still take him over esche in the long run.
