i'm not a contender this year or next, but i like what i've been able to do to get "younger." I'm not done yet moving everyone, but i've got some sort of "new" nucleus to work with; so here's the new habs for 08-09: Line 1-4: LW/C/RW Demitra/Horcoff/Jagr- most of this line will be traded at some point Higgins/Zubrus/Ryder Sanderson/Legwand/Hagman Fedoruk/Boyd/Ludqvist or Perrault Defense: Beauchemin/ M.A. Bergeron Backman/Kalinin Finger/Hale any plenty of reserves: A.Greene, A. Johnson, B. Mezei....
Goalie: Toskala, Cloutier, McElhinney
so it's a start for us, with plenty of changes still to come either during the season or at the deadline.
I'm hoping to somehow contend for 8th in the east with no other expectations when I move Jagr, Demitra, Sanderson, Zubrus.

Panthers D really got a new look with just two returning Dmen in addition to a new top line forward
Cole Staal Whitney - up until several weeks ago this wouldve been a Canes line. Still should be a pretty good top line with all 3 players being adept at scoring and passing
Antropov Nylander Parise - 2 top young forwards and one proven vet gives me a very good 2nd line
Hunter Belanger Nagy - Hunter and Belanger are solid. Nagy is sitll serviceable and has a great passing rating, may get some PP time as well
My 4th line is under construction
Campbell Jovonovski - excellent top pair Boucher Lydman - could be a top pair on a weak team Gilbert Ward - two top 4 in my bottom 6
extras Warrener, Hejda, Huskins
Biron in net with Raycorft as a backup. Biron should have a very good rating this year.

I still have a couple years left of rebuilding. It's just time to let my players develop now.
Loui Eriksson - Mikko Koivu - Corey Perry Greg Campbell - Dave Steckel - Bobby Ryan Rick Rypien - Rod Pelley - Jason Jaffray BJ Crombeen - Brady Murray - Mike Brown Carle Staal McIver Edler Smaby Fistric
With the likes of JVR, Filatov, Zagrapan, Sutter, and Shattenkirk along with many other valuable prospects still in my arsenal for the 09/10 and 10/11 seasons I feel my team is shaping up well.

My F lines are more set than my D due to ratings being done. But as of right now this is what I'm thinking
Tanguay-Richards-Kunitz Smyth-Kesler-Huselius Devereaux-Malhotra-Bertuzzi Burrows-Pahlsson-Moreau
Spacek-Streit Johnsson-Wideman Gleason-Bouillon/White/Sauer/Stuart
Huet Fernandez
Think I'm pretty balanced. My top 6 F are all 70+ in SC and 5 of those have 70+ in PA. Plus Bertuzzi is a nice threat on third line. 8 of my 12 F have 70+ in DF as well. So plenty of options for the PK as well. All of my C are 75 or better on FO, so on paper looks like I'm well balanced up front, now need to see what the D and G looks like. What I like too, is the core of my F are just entering their prime so I've got plenty of time. Only 1 F in my top 6 over 30.

I want to see Calgary's lines lol
anyway, here is mine so far
This is my first team with a really good goalie in Vokoun and a top offensive player in Alfredsson. Sundin is a question mark.. with retirement looming more changes may be made.
nash sundin alfredsson - i think it would make a great first line with either sundin or arnott cammalleri arnott satan/langenbrunner - would be a decent two-way line pandolfo bergeron satan/langenbrunner - hoping bergeron will climb depth chart again sim yashin kostopolous - yashin may be on waivers at some point yet
kubina hannan - kubina is actually solid offensively (#19 in d-scoring last year), hannan can be a shut-down type
roszival mclaren - roszival is actually solid offensively (#21 in d-scoring last year), mclaren can be a shut-down type
berard mara/corey murphy - all three are lower teir defenseman with some lottery value
Vokoun - solid starter, i think a top 10 goalie Sanford

I might need to get a backup at some point here pretty soon.... Other than that and Mike Van Ryns injury plagued season I think my lines could be pretty good going into next season:
Forwards:
LW______________C_____________RW T. Vanek______J. Spezza_______B. Shanahan J.P Dumont ___S. Gomez_______M. Erat M. Talbot____M. Richards_____S. Reinprecht MacArthur/Setoguchi______A. Steen_______V. Peltonen
Defence:
A. Markov_______T. Kaberle M. Van Ryn______F. Kuba G. Exelby______M. Skoula/Letang/Koistinen
Goaltending:
H. Lundqvist J. Markkanen
I'm still waiting for my next wave of young players. I think it is finally coming with Setoguchi, Brassard, Letang all getting good opportunities this year. Several others will see some opportunities too but these three are likely all going to play full years in the NHL in decent roles. Benoit Pouliot will prob be a plug as usual so Im not expecting much from him.
Also, Mike Richards is probably going to garner a better role than 3rd line center and a trade might be made somewhere to improve backup goaltending, depth at forward and maybe a prospect but we'll see. I think I got the best 1-2-3 center combination in the league.

Here's how we're looking right now...
Elias-Jokinen-Pominville Stillman-Plekanec-Semin Hecht-Hanzal-Parrish Bergenheim-York-Calder (looking to shake up the 4th line, though)
Timonen-Visnovsky Gill-Schultz Sopel/Martinek/Wisniewski/Eminger/Colaiacovo will probably all split 3rd pair duties
Giguere Budaj
Overall, I'm happy with my team. I really like the depth of my top three lines, as well as the youth I have up the middle. Still in the process of making a few minor moves, but I think the nucleus of my team is set for next season.

This is where we're at:
Zetterberg-Stajan-Kovalev Getzlaf-Kozlov-Svatos Bonk-Bourque-Dvorak Kelly-Glencross-Niedermayer
Lidstrom-Malik Morris-Sutton Sarich-Vandermeer with Barker and Westcott
Kiprusoff Thomas Auld
We've got some holes, but I think we'll be ok. Not necessarily a rebuilding year, but certainly a retooling one. We acquired some unknown players, in terms of consistency, but I like the make-up of my team.
Kipper's got to be a rock in net as my D is thin. He usually is very solid. This year, I need him to be great.
However, I really need Zetterberg to step up this year and be the dominant player that he can be. That will determine the success of my team this season.

Line 1-4: LW/C/RW Hagman/Horcoff/Ryder Higgins/Zubrus/Hunter Nagy/Legwand/ Fiddler Fedoruk or Sanderson /Perrault or Boyd/Ludqvist Defense: Beauchemin/ Ward Finger/Kalinin Backman/ Bergeron with A. Greene, B. Mezei and A. Johnson on the bench. Goalie: Toskala Cloutier
Pretty happy so far with the "new" habs. much younger and faster. hope to see these guys mature together, still have some moves to make, but all in all almost where I want to be.....
